Mattoon Junior High School blanked Effingham, 3-0 in baseball competition Tuesday.

 

Mattoon took a 2-0 first inning lead and added a single run in the third.

Effingham outhit the winners, 4-3. Colton Webb had two singles for the Mustangs.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony moved ahead 1-0 in the first inning but Dieterich tallied two in the top of the third. The Bullpups tied in the bottom of the frame and the score was tied at 3-3 in the fourth.

Dieterich finally moved ahead for good with two runs in the fifth and scored five in the sixth for a 10-3 lead. St. Anthony mounted a comeback only to fall a run short in the bottom of the seventh.

Dieterich had eight hits led by L. Jansen with three singles, B. Niemerg with a single and triple and E. Kreke with a double and four RBI.

St. Anthony had 12 hits led by A. Rios with a single, double, triple and two RBI, C. Wines with a single, two doubles and an RBI, A. Walton with three singles and three RBI and E. Johnson with a double.

At Beecher City

Sigel St. Michael edged Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 9-7 in an extra inning in National Trail Conference action Tuesday.

St. Michael took a 2-0 first inning lead. CHBC came back to lead 3-2 in the third but the Sharpshooters tallied five in the fourth. CHBC tied in the fifth. The game went into the eighth when St. Michael tallied two runs for the win.

The Sharpshooters were led by Hatton witrh two doubles and two RBI, Fearday with a double and two RBI, Titus with two singles and an RBI and Croy with two singles.

CHBC was led by Wyatt Rueff with two singles, a triple and three RBI, Blake Mueller with a double and two RBI and Clive Schlanser with two singles.
