Cubs' Defense, Hitting Continues Strong, ML Scores, Standings

The Chicago Cubs defense has been spot on and Wednesday was no different than in the other 10 victories.
This time it was David Bote in the Cubs 6-1 win over Kansas City. Yu Darvish had runners at first and third with no outs in the third inning. The Royals' Whit Merrifield hit a ball into the dirt towards the mound. Yu Darvish made an attempt at the play but it hit off his glove sending it towards Bote who grabbed it keeping his foot on second for the force out and then threw to first for a double play.
Darvish then got the final out on a strikeout to end the frame and Kansas City tallied only one run.
Meanwhile, the Cubs continue to hit with 10 in the contest. Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Javier Baez and Victor Caratini had two singles each. Baez drove in two runs and Caratini one. Ian Happ added a double and Willson Contreras a single and an RBI.
Darvish was the winning pitcher on the mound going seven innings, allowing five hits, one run, one walk and striking out four.
The Cubs are 10-2 and ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers by 4.5 games
MLB Mandates Tougher Protocols
Major League Baseball is mandating tougher coronavirus protocols after outbreaks among players on the Miami Marlins and the St. Louis Cardinals that led to the postponement of 21 games in the first two weeks of the shortened season.
A memo was sent to teams Wednesday outlining the changes, including that players and staff must wear face masks at all times, including in the dugout and bullpens, except for players on the field.
Players and staff are also banned from visiting bars, malls or other places where people congregate while in their home cities.
