Four Major League Baseball players said Monday that they won't play in the coronavirus-shortened season due to start in late July.

First baseman Ryan Zimmerman and pitcher Joe Ross of the reigning World Series champion Washington Nationals cited concerns about their own safety and that of their families. Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Mike Leake also won't be playing, and Colorado Rockies outfielder Ian Desmond is also out.
