ALIS Rockets Into State Championship Game

The Altamont Lutheran Interparish Rockets utilized an 11-run third inning to post a 14-1 five inning victory over Crab Orchard in the semifinals of the Class S Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association state baseball tournament. The big win Tuesday afternoon propelled the Rockets into the championship game, set for 3 p.m. Thursday in Coulterville against Holy Childhood, a 12-2 winner over TSJ/Im.Lu./St. Anne.

While the Rockets pounded 11 hits on their way to the win, Rocket pitchers Dillan Elam and Ethan Robbins combined on a one-hitter. Elam went 4.2 innings allowing one run on one hit, five walks and eight strikeouts. Robbins came in for one out.

The Rockets 11-run third came when Alec Jahraus, Nathan Stuemke, Elam, Keegan Schultz, Eli Miller and Kaidyn Miller each had an RBI. Jahraus doubled scoring a run and Stuemke tripled scoring three runs. Elam hit into a fielder's choice but one run scored. Schultz drew a walk scoring one run and Miller singled scoring two runs. Robbins drew a walk, scoring one run.

Crab Orchard got things started in the first inning when Odle was struck by a pitch, driving in a run. In the bottom of the first, ALIS tied things up when Elam lined out, scoring one run.

The Rockets didn't commit a single error in the field. Stuemke had the most chances in the field with nine.
