The New York Yankees swept a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers Thursday, but also picked up a pair of injuries. All-Star catcher Gary Sánchez exited the second game with left groin tightness after Edwin Encarnación left the first game with an oblique issue. Their status isn’t yet known.

The Yankees expect Luis Severino to return from the injured list and make his first start of the season on Tuesday. Severino hasn’t pitched in the majors since Game 3 of the 2018 American League Division Series, when he gave up six runs in three innings of a 16-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox.

Angels' Ohtani Done For Season

The Los Angeles Angels' Shohei Ohtani is done for the season as he’ll undergo surgery on his left kneecap. Ohtani didn't pitch this season after undergoing Tommy John surgery last year, although he’s expected to return to double duty in 2020.

Mets' Alonso Shaves Moustache

New York Mets rookie Pete Alonso struck out twice and reached on a throwing error in his first three at-bats against the Diamondbacks Thursday night. Dissatisfied with his performance, Alonso made a change. However it wasn’t in his batting stance or swing – he shaved his moustache! However, it didn’t work as he then struck out and grounded out.
