St. Anthony, WSS, BSE Claim Baseball Wins

Effingham St. Anthony High School blanked Odin/Patoka, 10-0 in six innings of baseball action Wednesday.

The Bulldogs took a 3-0 second inning lead and tallied runs over the next four innings to end the game via the 10-run rule.

Five players had two hits each. A. Mendella led the way with a single, triple and two RBI. E. Moore had two singles and four RBI. K. Walsh and D. Tingley had two singles and an RBI each and A. Webb had two singles.

Webb picked up the win on the mound, going all six innings, allowing no runs on two hits, no walks and four strikeouts.

C. Calhoun had a double for Odin/Patoka and J. Gebrye had a single.

St. Anthony also claimed the junior varsity victory, 8-4.

At Mulberry Grove

Brownstown/St. Elmo broke loose with three runs in the second and went on to beat Mulberry Grove 12-2 in six innings Wednesday.

BSE had 10 hits in the contest led by Carson Nugent with a single, two doubles and five RBI and Bryton Pruett with a single, double and an RBI. Francisco Viramontes had a single and drove in two  runs.

Brownstown/St. Elmo improves to 1-0 in the Egyptian-Illini Conference and 3-3 overall.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead, went through two innings before scoring another run in the fourth and finishing out with two in the fifth for a 4-0 win over Ramsey Wednesday.

Windsor/Stew-Stras' A. Wittenberg threw a four-hitter over the seven innings, allowing five walks and striking out four.

Wittenberg had two singles while G. Kasey and T. Sayers had two singles each. Sayers brought home a run.
