The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes are back in the Elite Eight.

Teutopolis took a 7-1 lead, then held on for a 7-5 win over Breese Mater Dei Saturday to capture the championship of their own 2A Sectional Tournament.

Teutopolis grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but Mater Dei plated a run in the fourth to make it 2-1. Teutopolis then broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning. Mater Dei scored twice in both the sixth and seventh innings to make it interesting, but the Shoes claimed the two-run win.

Clint Weber had a big day at the plate for the Shoes, homering during the big fifth inning, and also doubling and singling in the contest. He drove home two runs and scored twice.

Meanwhile, Dawson Smith went 6-2/3 innings for the win, allowing four runs on six hits including a sixth inning home run, walking three and fanning 12 batters. Smith is now 6-1-1 this spring. Mitch Hardiek finished up for the save, allowing a solo home run, then getting the final out.

Smith singled home a run, Trent Schwerdt singled and walked and drove home two runs, Hardiek singled twice, and Tyler Runde, Brady McMahon and Justin Hardiek each singled.

With the win, Teutopolis improved to 25-8-1 for the spring. Mater Dei finished their campaign with a 20-10 mark.

Teutopolis makes another trip to GCS Ballpark in Sauget Monday at 5pm for the Super-Sectional. They'll take on Harrisburg, which won the Benton 2A Sectional with a 7-5 win over Nashville.

We will have Monday's game on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com
