St. Anthony, BSE Pick Up Baseball Victories

Effingham St. Anthony scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and pulled out a 6-4 win over Salem in high school baseball action Monday.

The Bulldogs held a 1-0 lead in the second before Salem tied in the fourth. The Wildcats moved ahead 4-3 in the fifth before the three-run sixth for St. Anthony.

Both teams had eight hits. The Bulldogs were led by Bryson Wall with three singles and an RBI.

Collin Koester went six innings for the victory, allowing eight hits, one walk and striking out two. Gavin Braunecker came on to throw the final inning, allowing no hits and striking out two.

St. Anthony improves to 4-1 on the season.

At Vandalia

Brownstown/St. Elmo took a 4-2 opening inning lead and tacked on three in the second for a 7-2 lead. Vandalia came back with a run in the fourth and tied in the top of the sixth. But BSE had a two-run bottom of the sixth for the 9-7 victory Monday.

BSE had a whopping 11 hits in the contest led by Jace McWhorter with a single, double and two RBI, Francisco Viramontes with two singles and four RBI, Caleb Atwood with two singles and Bryton Pruett with a double.

Brownstown/St. Elmo is now 3-2 on the season and will travel to Neoga Tuesday.
