Bulldogs Fall, N. Clay, T-town, Newton, WSS Nab Baseball Wins

Effingham St. Anthony High School fell to Robinson in baseball action Tuesday, 5-4.

The Bulldogs held a 3-2 opening inning lead and tacked on another run in the third. But Robinson came back to tie the score with two in the fourth and then won it in the top of the seventh.

Both teams had six hits. St. Anthony was led by Davis Tingley with a single, double and two RBI and Kaden Fearday with two singles.

The loss was the first of the young season for the Bulldogs who drop to 2-1.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis had a three-run sixth inning and handed Cumberland a 6-2 loss Tuesday for its first victory of the young season.

The Wooden Shoes took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Both teams tallied a run in the fifth. The Shoes then had a three-run sixth.

Luke Ungrund hit a home run and finished with two RBI for the Shoes. Brady McMahon knocked out two singles and drove in a run.

Trenton Schwerdt picked up the pitching win, going 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on two hits, one walk and striking out 11. Andy Niebrugge pitched 1.2 innings allowing two hits and striking out one for the save.

Cumberland was led by Justin Brown with a single and a solo home run. Brayson Shew added two singles.

North Clay (Louisville) stepped out to a 5-1 opening inning lead and downed Brownstown/St. Elmo, 6-2 in action Tuesday.

The Cardinals had only two hits in the contest, singles by Tyson Jones and Elijah McCrary. BSE committed three errors.

Caleb Atwood and Jace McWhorter had a double each while Rocky Himes had two singles and an RBI. BSE drops to 0-2 on the season.

Newton High School ended this one in the sixth due to the 10-run rule over Palestine/Hutsonville, 10-0 Tuesday.

The Eagles edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then had a three-run third, a four-run fifth and a two-run sixth.

Newton banged out 13 hits in the contest led by Trent Smithenry with a single, double and three RBI, Ross Farley three singles and two RBI and Zach Stark with three singles.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg tallied a 6-4 win over Pana Tuesday.

WSS edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then tacked on a single run in the third and four in the sixth. Pana had a run in the second and three in the sixth.

WSS had only four hits while Pana had six. The Panthers made five errors.

At Neoga

Neoga lost a heartbreaker Tuesday by a 2-1 count against Sullivan.

Sullivan took a 1-0 lead in the first but here came Neoga. The Indians tied in the third inning. Then, in the seventh, the Redskins scored the game-winner.

Neoga was led in hitting by Isaac Walk, Trenton Moore and Nate Lacy with two singles each. The Indians drop to 0-2.
