Three pitchers combined for a three-hitter as Effingham High School downed Newton, 7-1 in baseball action Monday.

The Hearts took a 1-0 first inning lead and had a three-run fourth. Newton's lone run came in the fifth.

EHS had eight hits led by Tanner Gordon with three singles and an RBI and Kendall Ballman with a double. Brayton Poland drove in two runs with a single.

Austin Waldhoff began on the mound, going four innings, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out eight for the win. Kalen Reardon threw two innings, allowing one hit, one run and striking out one. Christian Raddatz came on to finish out the contest allowing one hit and one walk.

The Hearts are now 2-0 on the season.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony had a total of 12 hits while Gavin Braunecker threw a two-hitter for the 11-0 win on the mound.

Braunecker went four innings, allowing the two hits, four walks and striking out four. Jack Hoene came on to pitch the final inning, allowing no hits and one walk.

Davis Tingley and Blake Niebrugge had a single, double and two RBI each for the Bulldogs while Dylan Guy added three singles and an RBI, Hoene a single, double and an RBI, Bryson Wall a double and two RBI and Collin Koester a double and an RBI.

Dieterich edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead and went on to blank Shelbyville, 10-0 in seven innings Monday.

The Movin' Maroons had 11 hits in the contest led by Matthew Hunzinger with two singles, a double and an RBI, Derek Kuhl with two singles and four RBI, Cole Niebrugge with two singles and two RBI, Evan Bohnhoff with two singles and an RBI and Blake Lane with a double.

Niebrugge went six innings allowing two hits, two walks and striking out six. Kuhl went the final inning allowing one hit and striking out one.

At Shelbyville

Teutopolis fell to Breese Mater Dei in baseball action Monday, 7-3.

The Wooden Shoes took a 1-0 lead in the third inning and held that until the sixth when Mater Dei broke loose with five runs.

T-town had five hits in the contest led by Clint Weber with a single and double. Tyler Runde and Mitch Hemmen drove in a run each with a single.

The Shoes drop to 0-3 on the season while Breese Mater Dei improves to 2-2.

North Clay (Louisville) claimed an 8-3 victory over Neoga Monday. No other information was provided.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City fell to Pana by a 1-0 count Monday.

The lone run for the Panthers came in the fifth inning. CHBC actually outhit Pana by a 4-3 count.

CHBC's hits were all singles by Quaid Schlanser, Wes Radloff, Eddie Clearwater and Andy Weber.
