St. Anthony, N. Clay Advance to NTC Tourney Title Game

Effingham St. Anthony and North Clay (Louisville) will square off for the championship of the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament after both picked up victories Wednesday.

St. Anthony handed Dieterich a 6-1 loss. The Bulldogs edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead, then tacked on another run in the second and four in the third. Dieterich's run came in the top of the seventh.

The Bulldogs had seven hits in the game led by Dylan Guy with two singles and an RBI, Colin Koester with a double and two RBI, Hunter Stephens with a double and an RBI and Kaden Fearday with a double.

Hunzinger led the Movin' Maroons with two singles and a double. Dieterich outhit St. Anthony by a 9-7 count.

North Clay trailed Altamont 3-1 after the first inning but got back in the contest quickly.

North Clay pulled ahead 4-3 in the third inning and tacked on two more runs in the sixth. The Indians fought back in the top of the seventh only to fall short.

Tyson Jones had a double and triple for the winners while B. Ingram and Elijah McCrary had a home run each. Ingram fnished with three RBI and McCrary one. Harmon Clifton contributed two singles and an RBI.

Jacob Hammer hit a home run and finished with two RBI for the Indians while Dakota Kuhlman had a double and two RBI. Jacob Robbins finished with two singles.

St. Anthony will take on North Clay at 7 p.m. at Dieterich Friday while Dieterich and Altamont meet for third place at 4 p.m.

In the consolation bracket, South Central outlasted Neoga, 14-10.

Neoga took a 1-0 second inning lead and led 3-0 in the top of the third. The Cougars came back with five in the bottom of the frame. Neoga took a 6-5 lead in the top of the fourth but once again, here came the Cougars with three runs to lead 9-6 and pushed that to 12-6 in the fifth. Neoga pulled within 12-10 in the sixth but South Central put the game away with two in the bottom of the frame.

South Central had 13 hits led by H. Brandt with a single, home run and six RBI. C. Dodson contributed a single and double while S. Rubin had a double and two RBI. L. Lotz tallied two singles.

Neoga was led by C. Lanham with a single, double and an RBI, C. Banning with a triple and an RBI and T. Moore two singles and an RBI.

Brownstown/St. Elmo defeated Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 13-6.

BSE banged out 16 hits in the contest led by Bryton Pruett who went four-for-five with four singles. Nate Philpot had three singles, Caleb Atwood three singles and an RBI and Nick Rosborough two singles and an RBI. BSE improves to 9-8-1 on the season.

WSS was led by Greuel with two doubles and Beck and Wernsing with two singles each.

Brownstown/St. Elmo will meet South Central for the consolation championship at 4 p.m. Friday at Kinmundy.
