T-town Claims Second, St. A Finishes Fourth at State

Teutopolis finished second in the Class 2A State Baseball Tournament.

Teutopolis' and St. Anthony's junior high baseball seasons both wrapped up at state baseball tournaments in East Peoria over the weekend.

Teutopolis took home the second place trophy in Class 2A competition while St. Anthony finished fourth in Class 1A.

Teutopolis won its opening round game Friday defeating Kankakee Bishop McNamara, 5-1. The Wooden Shoes had a three-run fourth inning and tacked on two in the sixth. T-town had seven hits led by Adam Lustig with two singles and an RBI.

In the second contest, the Shoes downed Tremont, 11-1 in five innings.

T-town took a 1-0 first inning lead, tallied four in the second, one in the third and five in the fifth to end the contest via the 10-run rule.

The Shoes had 10 hits led by Ben Goeckner and Adam Lustig with a single and double each. Derek Niemerg had three singles and Tyler Schwerdt finished with two RBI.

In the championship contest, T-town fell to St. Joseph, 10-4 to finish second.

T-town led 1-0 until the third when St. Joseph tallied two runs then scored three in the fourth. T-town pulled within 5-4 in the bottom of the fourth but St. Joseph finished out with single runs in the fifth and sixth and three in the seventh.

T-town had seven hits led by Caleb Bloemer with a home run and three RBI, Logan Roepke, Conner Siemer and Tyler  Schwerdt had a double each.

T-town finished with a 19-2 mark while St. Joseph ended at 20-1. The third place game went to Bloomington Corpus Christi over Tremont, 4-1.

St. Anthony also picked up a victory in its first game at the Class 1A State Tourney and defeated Monmouth ICS by a score of 7-2.

The Bullpups tallied a run in the second then broke loose with two in the fifth and four in the sixth. St. Anthony had only four hits but made the most of its opportunities. Griffin Sehy and Will Hoene had a single and drove in two runs each.

In the second contest, Marquette Academy blanked the Bullpups 5-0 with a three-run first.

St. Anthony could muster only two hits, as Will Hoene had two singles.

That dropped the Bullpups into the third place contest where they faced Springfield Christ the King and fell, 11-4.

Christ the King banged out 13 hits in the contest and was aided by three St. Anthony errors.

The Bullpups had six hits led by Eli Levitt with two singles. St. Anthony finished the season with an 11-8 record.

Winning the 1A state title was Ottawa Marquette over Noirmal Metcalf, 10-0.
