Cardinals, Cubs Pound Out Big Hits In Wins

ST. LOUIS -- Matt Carpenter had a solo shot and finished with two RBI while Jose Martinez had two doubles and two RBI, Harrison Bader a single and double and Yairo Munoz and Yadier Molina two singles each. as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the San Francisco Giants 9-2 Sunday.

Miles Mikolas went seven innings, spinning a two-hitter with no walks and eight strikeouts. Mikolas also aided his own cause with a single.

The Cardinals edged out to a 1-0 lead in the second and pushed that to 2-0 in the fourth. five runs came in the sixth and two more in the seventh.


Chicago Cubs 6, Chicago White Sox 1

With 15 hits, the Chicago Cubs handed crosstown rival, the White Sox a 6-1 loss in action Sunday.

The Cubs had their hitting shoes on with 15 in the contest including Kyle Schwarber's double and solo shot in the second. Anthony Rizzo added a single, double and an RBI, Ian Happ a double, Javier Baez a double, Ben Zobrist three singles, Daniel Murphy two singles and Albert Almora Jr. two singles and an RBI.

Kyle Hendricks pushed his pitching record to 13-11, going 7.2 innings, allowing four hits, one run, no walks and striking out five.

 

Yankees' Gregorius Injured

The New York Yankees say Didi Gregorius was injured while sliding headfirst into home in their walk-off, playoff-clinching win on Saturday night. The team says Gregorius tore cartilage in his right wrist and could be done for the season.
