CHICAGO -- Anthony Rizzo came up big for the Chicago Cubs Wednesday. Rizzo banged out a two-run homer and that gave them the impetus for an 8-4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. Rizzo finished with three RBI with a single in the fourth.

Jason Heyward had three hits and Javier Baez two hits including a triple. Albert Almora Jr. hit a leadof homer in the seventh. Addison Russell drove in his second run in  August.

With the victory, the Cubs are now three games ahead off the Brewers in the National League Central. They are 19 games over .500 with 6 1/2 weeks remaining in the season.

Cardinals 4, Nationals 2

ST. LOUIS -- Harrison Bader was a big part of the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 victory over the Washington Nationals Wednesday.

Bader has been proving himself since the trade of Tommy Pham. Bader covered 68 feet in 4.2 seconds to rob Bryce Harper of a hit in the fourth inning. He also added a double that scored a run in the sixth.

Austin Gomber went six innings allowing four walks and striking out six.

The win pushes the Cardinals' winning streak to eight games. The Cardinals remain a game back of the Brewers and Phillies in the National League Wild Card race and four games behind the Cubs in the NL Central. They are 11 games over .500.

Acuna Attempt Gets Sidetracked

The Atlanta Braves’ Ronald Acuna Jr.’s attempt at four straight leadoff homers got sidetracked Thursday night when he was hit on the first pitch by Miami’s Jose Urena.

That resulted in the benches clearing and Urena and Braves manager Brian Snitker being ejected. The benches cleared again when Acuna tossed a piece of gear toward the mound on his way to first base. No punches were thrown, but Acuna later left the game.
