ST. LOUIS -- Jose Martinez was the hero of the night as St. Louis edged Colorado, 3-2 in action at Busch Stadium Thursday.

Martinez hit an opposite-field pinch-hit single in the ninth inning off Wade Davis and that drove in the tying and winning runs. Greg Garcia had a single with one out and reached third on a single by Harrison Bader. Bader then stole second and that's when Martinez hit a high fastball to give the Cardinals their ninth walk-off win this season.

The Cardinals had eight hits in the contest led by Matt Carpenter with two singles. The rest of the hits were scattered among six players.

Miles Mikolas went seven innings, allowing seven hits, two walks and striking out six to pick up the win. Chasen Shreve went the ninth to pitch a perfect inning.

Colorado lost three of four to the Cardinals.

Padres 6, Cubs 1

CHICAGO -- Chicago took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning but Austin Hedges came to bat in the sixth and banged out a three-run homer for San Diego. The Padres went on to pick up a 6-1 victory Thursday at Wrigley Field.

Mike Montgomery went 5.1 innings, allowing seven hits, one walk and two strikeouts in the loss. Jesse Chavez came on in the sixth and his scoreless streak ended.

The Cubs couldn't seem to figure out San Diego's pitching, garnering only three hits in the contest. Meanwhile the Padres were banging out 15 hits.

Singles for the Cubs came from Jason Heyward, Addison Russell and Anthony Rizzo. Robbie Erlin retired the first 11 Cubs batters and went five innings before leaving the game.

The win ended the Padres' seven game losing streak.

Giants' Sandoval Out For Season

The San Francisco Giants say that infielder Pablo Sandoval will miss the rest of the season with a torn right hamstring. Sandoval’s injury occurred when he slid home on a sacrifice fly against the Brewers on Sunday.
