CINCINNATI -- Dexter Fowler is trying to turn the season around.

Fowler stepped up Tuesday, knocking out a two-run homer as the Cardinals picked up a 4-2 win in 11 innings over Cincinnati at Great American Ball Park.

Interim manager Mike Shildt has made it a point to put Fowler back in the starting lineup and now it seems it's paying off. Fowler also drew two walks and stole a base Tuesday. There are other veterans Shildt has been talking to and encouraging for the second half run.

The Cardinals edged out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning and led 2-0 in the top of the fourth. However Cincinnati came back in the bottom of the inning to tie the score at 2-2. The game went into the 11th when Fowler had his heroics.

Marcell Ozuma, Paul DeJong and Yairo Munoz all had doubles for the Cardinals. Sam Tuivailala picked up the win going 1.2 innings to improve to 3-3.

Diamondbacks 5, Cubs 1

CHICAGO -- The Arizona Diamondbacks took advantage of the Chicago Cubs pitching and tallied a 5-1 victory Tuesday.

The D'backs had a three-run fifth as Paul Goldschmidt, Steven Souza Jr. and Jake Lamb each drove in a run  Kyle Hendricks went five innings, allowing seven hits, three runs, two walks and struck out eight in the loss. He dropped to 6-9 on the season. The Cubs rotation hasn't been able to pick up the slack.

Jason Heyward hit a solo homer for the Cubs. They had a chance in the seventh with back-to-back singles by Ben Zobrist and Victor Caratini. Anthony Rizzo loaded the bases when he drew a walk. But Albert Almora Jr. struck out to end the threat.

Other than those two singles and the home run, the Cubs added only three other hits, all singles by Javier Baez, Ian Happ and Addison Russell.

Yankees Acquire Britton

The New York Yankees have acquired former All-Star reliever Zach Britton from the Baltimore Orioles. In return, the Orioles receive three minor league pitchers.

After being accused of not hustling on a couple of plays in a loss to the Rays, the New York Yankees have placed catcher Gary Sanchez on the disabled list with a right groin strain.
