LOS ANGELES -- Javier Baez came up big Tuesday night as the Chicago Cubs pounded the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-4.

Baez had four hits, including a solo home run and a grand slam.  He drove in five runs and that helped the Cubs snap a five-game losing streak. He hit a double in the first inning then had a single in the third. His solo shot came in the fifth and the grand slam was in the sixth. He now leads the Cubs with 16 home runs and 56 RBI.

Now only did Baez lead the Cubs offensively, he took over third base for Kris Bryant who is on the disabled list, and came up with a double play that kept the Dodgers from a rally. The Cubs placed Bryant on the disabled list with left shoulder inflammation.

Bryant says he originally hurt his shoulder about a month ago on a slide and aggravated the injury by spending extra time in the batting cage.

Jon Lester picked up his sixth straight start and is now tied with the Nationals' Max Scherzer for the National League lead with 10 wins.

Cardinals 11, Indians 2

ST. LOUIS -- Matt Carpenter provided the offense as the St. Louis Cardinals handed the Cleveland Indians an 11-2 rout Tuesday evening at Busch Stadium.

Carpenter tallied five hits including two home runs and became the 19th player in Major League history to pick up five hits, five runs and two homers in a game.

He opened the evening with a leadoff homer and ended his evening with a home run in the eighth inning.

Jose Martinez came up big with a three-run homer and Kolten Wong added to the evening with his two-run homer in the third.

Cleveland took a 2-0 lead but pitcher Carlos Martinez got through it and struck out eight.
