ST. LOUIS -- John Gant stepped into the rotation for the St. Louis Cardinals and proved his worth with a 4-0 victory over the Cleveland Indians at Busch Stadium Monday.

Gant went seven innings, allowing only one hit on a team that has been hot lately. The lone hit was a single by Yan Gomes in the second inning. He finished with five walks.

The victory snapped Cleveland's seven-game winning streak and secured the Cardinals' 10,000th victory as a member of the National League.

Gant will continue to serve as Wacha's replacement. GM Michael Girsch said the Cardinals will be without Wacha at least through the All-Star break.

Marcell Ozuna banged out a double that drove in two runs in the third. Kolten Wong added a sixth-inning RBI double.

Dodgers 2, Cubs 1

LOS ANGELES -- Duane Underwood made his Major League debut for Chicago but the Cubs fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers, 2-1.

Underwood gave up two hits which included a leadoff home run in the second inning by Kike Hernandez. He went four innings. The rookie struck out the first batter he faced before issuing a walk, a single and another walk to load the bases. But he got out of the frame on a fly ball out.

Dodgers' Kenta Maeda struck out nine Cubs in a seven inning stint. It was the Cubs fifth straight loss.
