Effingham, T-town, Cumberland Set For Firecracker Classic

Effingham Post 120, Teutopolis Post 124 and Cumberland Posts 566-643-764 baseball teams will be competing in the 33rd Annual Firecracker Senior Legion Baseball Classic the end of June and first of July.

Effingham is a member of the Blue Pool along with Bristol, Ind., Danville Blue and Decatur. Members of the Red Pool are  Teutopolis, Mattoon, Charleston Red and Rantoul. Members of the  White Pool are Danville Gold, Highland, Mo-Do and Piatt County. Members of the  Star Pool are Cumberland County, Lincoln, Charleston Blue and Crawfordsville, Ind.

Effingham opens play Friday, July 29 against Decatur at 9 a.m. and will face Bristol, Ind. at 5 p.m. In Saturday's contest, Effingham takes on Danville Blue at 9 a.m.

T-town's games include Rantoul at 11 a.m. Friday, July 29 and Mattoon at 7 p.m. T-town will face Charleston Red at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Cumberland County meets Charleston Blue at 10 a.m. July 29 and Crawfordsville, Ind. at 2 p.m. Cumberland County then meets Lincoln at 9 a.m. July 30.

The event is pool play and the rest of July 30's games will have the first, second, third and fourth place finishers in each pool squaring off to advance to the finals Sunday, July 1.

The games will be played a four locations, Grimes Field, Lake Land College, Eastern Illinois University and Mattoon High School.
