North Clay Claims Baseball Regional Title

WOODLAWN -- North Clay (Louisville) High School captured the championship of the Class 1A Woodlawn Baseball Regional Monday.

The contest had been postponed from Saturday. The Cardinals blanked Woodlawn, 5-0.

North Clay edged out to 1-0 first inning lead then tacked on three in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Jordan Bloemer picked up the pitching win on a two-hitter with no walks and 10 strikeouts.

Tyson Jones led the Cardinals in hitting with a single and triple.

North Clay advances to face Neoga at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Effingham St. Anthony Sectional. Following that game will be Altamont against Odin at 6 p.m. Both games can be heard on 979 XFM.

Class 2A Vandalia Regional

Newton saw its season come to an end in the championship game of the Class 2A Vandalia Regional Monday. The game was rescheduled from Saturday.

Greenville was a 7-1 winner. The lone run for the Eagles came in the fifth. Greenville had taken a 5-0 lead into that frame then tacked on two more in the sixth.

Wagy and Farley had a double each for Newton.

Greenville advances to face  Staunton at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The opening game of the day will feature Teutopolis taking on Belleville Althoff Catholic at 4. That contest can be heard on KJ Country 102.3.

Class 2A Vandalia Regional

Class 3A Charleston Regional

Charleston moved forward from opening round play in its own regional Monday.

The Trojans blanked Urbana 2-0. Charleston will now face Effingham at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Mattoon takes on Paris Thursday at 4 p.m.

The winners advance to the championship game Saturday at 10 a.m.
