Cubs Come Back to Beat Braves, Twins Down Cardinals

ATLANTA -- It was a game of calls . . . or missed calls according to the Atlanta Braves.

The Chicago Cubs came away with a 3-2 victory over the Braves in a come-from-behind contest. The game was tied at 1-1 in the fifth inning when the Braves got runners on first and third and no outs. A pitch went past Cubs catcher Willson Contreras but bounced off the backstop and came back. Contreras got to the ball, threw to pitcher Mike Montgomery covering home plate and he tagged Johan Camargo.  The Braves challenged but the call was upheld.

Another call came again when a pitch got away from Contreras who got the ball then threw to third catching Charlie Culberson. The call was out again.

The Braves moved ahead on a homer by Ronald ACuna Jr. in the eighth. But here came the Cubs with doubles by Albert aAlmora Jr. and ADdison Russell and the score was knotted at 2-2. Ben Zobrtist then hit a single that scored the game-wininng run.


Minnesota 4,St. Louis 1

Minnesota came up with a three-run seventh inning and handed the St. Louis Cardinals a 4-1 loss Tuesday night.

Twins' Bobby Wilson attempted a bunt but it was fouled off so, he switched tactics and ended up hitting a two-run homer that finished off a three-run seventh inning. Logan Morrison started the seventh with a double.

Jose Berrios improved to 4-4 allowng one run, two hits and striking out 10. Fernando Rodney picked up his eighth save as he went through the ninth unscathed.

 

Mariner's Cano Suspended

The Seattle Mariners will be without All-Star second baseman Robinson Cano for 80 games. Cano was suspended for violating the league’s rules against performance enhancing drugs. Cano said the substance was given to him by a licensed doctor in the Dominican Republic to treat a medical ailment and he didn't realize it was banned.


Boston's Smith Suffers Dislocated Shoulder

Boston Red Sox reliever Carson Smith suffered a dislocated right shoulder when he threw his glove in the dugout Monday night. Smith was placed on the 10-day DL, but will likely be out much longer.
