Mount Zion edged Effingham 10-9 in Apollo Conference baseball action Tuesday.

The Braves had 13 hits in the contest including two home runs and four doubles. Lutz and Johns had a home run each with Lutz garnering three RBI. Durand had two doubles and an RBI and Kirkland and Smith had a double each. Kirkland drove in two runs.

Effingham banged out eight hits. Mason Hull had a single, home run and four RBI while Zack Lee had a solo homer. Ryan Sandifer and Brett Koester had a double each. Sandifer drove in a run. Parker Seachrist had two singles and an RBI.

The Hearts drop to 4-2 in the conference, 11-2 overall.

Dieterich stepped out to a 1-0 first inning lead then tacked on a single run in the second and two in the fifth for a 4-0 win over Casey-Westfield Tuesday.

Both teams had five hits but the Warriors committed four errors.

Dieterich was led by Callaway Campton with a double and an RBI and Bryce McClain with two singles.

Briar Schmidt went all seven innings allowing five hits, no walks and striking out eight.

Neoga handed Arcola a 15-4 loss in action Tuesday.

The Indians held a 9-0 lead going into the bottom of the sixth when Arcola tallied four runs but the Indians scored six more in the sixth to end the contest.

Evan Fritcher picked up the pitching win on a one-hitter with three walks and four strikeouts.

Caleb Hill had a single, two doubles and three RBI for the Indians. Wood added three singles and three RBI.

Olney took a 4-0 first inning lead and went on to down Newton 13-1 in five innings via the 10-run rule.

The Tigers had 12 hits while Newton had five. The Eagles committed four errors.
