Shoes Down Bulldogs Tuesday

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes beat the St. Anthony Bulldogs 8-3 in high school baseball action Tuesday. The game at Evergreen Hollow Park was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

The Bulldogs actually scored first in the contest. Blake Niebrugge led off the second inning with a double. After the next two hitters struck out, Colin Koester singled to right to bring home Niebrugge and give St. Anthony a 1-0 lead.

Teutopolis took their first lead in the fourth inning. Cody Jansen and Eric Kremer delivered back-to-back singles and Drew Thoele was hit by a pitch to load the bases with nobody out. Ethyn Dust then doubled to drive home Jansen and Kremer and give T-Town a 2-1 lead. Lee Hardiek then doubled home Thoele to make it 3-1.

Teutopolis broke the game open in the sixth scoring five times. Jansen doubled to lead off the inning and Kremer doubled him home to make it 4-1. Thoele was again hit by a pitch and an error brought home Kremer. After a strikeout, Jared Bloemer reached on an error and that made it 6-1. A strikeout and yet another error allowed the Shoes to extend the lead to 8-1 before a double play ended the inning.

St. Anthony made some noise in the bottom of the sixth. Austin Kline was hit by a pitch and Dylan Guy singled. With one out, Blake Niebrugge singled to load the bases. After a strikeout for the second out, Bryson Wall dumped a base hit behind first base to bring home two runs and account for the final score.

Eric Kremer threw a great game for the Wooden Shoes, going six innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits and a walk. Kremer fanned 11. Ethyn Dust pitched the final inning, walking two and fanning two.

Adam Levitt went five innings for St. Anthony, giving up seven runs, six earned, on eight hits and a walk, fanning four. Joseph Kabbes pitched the final two innings, giving up a run and striking out three.

Teutopolis improved to 8-4 on the season while the Bulldogs dropped to 10-2.
