T-town Wins, S.C., Altamont Split, BSE Loses in Baseball Action

Teutopolis High School handed Flora a 10-1 loss in baseball action Friday.

The Wolves took a 1-0 first inning lead but T-town tied in the second then took a 2-1 lead in the third. The Wooden Shoes tallied four runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Ethyn Dust had a good day at the plate and on the mound. Dust picked up the pitching win, going six innings, allowing three hits, one run, one walk and striking out seven to improve to 2-0.

At the plate, Dust had two singles. Jackson Goeckner had a single and drove in three runs while Drew Thoele had a single and two RBI. Lee Hardiek had two RBI. Eric Kremer and Cody Jansen had a single and an RBI each.

The Shoes improved to 5-3 while Flora dropped to 2-7.

At Kinmundy

In a Friday game, South Central edged Carlyle 4-3.

Carlyle held a 2-0 lead through the first three innings. The Cougars tallied a run in the fourth and tied in the sixth. Carlyle moved ahead 3-2 in the top of the seventh but the Cougars pulled out the victory with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

South Central had six hits led by Trent Geiler with a single, triple and an RBI, Ryan McCown with two singles and Ryan Matheny with a double.

Logan Lotz went six innings, allowing five hits, three runs, four walks and striking out five for the pitching win.

In a Saturday contest, Benton edged the Cougars, 2-1.

Benton took a 1-0 first inning lead and led 2-0 until the third when the Cougars scored a run.

South Central had five hits, all singles by, Geiler, Hunter Brandt, Matheny, Aaron Patten and McCown. Matheny had the lone RBI.

At Altamont

Altamont and Hillsboro split victories a doubleheader Saturday.

The Indians won the opener 16-2 in five innings. Altamont had 11 hits in the game led by Noah Teasley with two singles, a double and four RBI and Schmidt with a single, double and three RBI. Jacob Robbins added two singles and two RBI.

Altamont scored two in the first, four in the second, six in the third and four in the fourth.

In the second game, Hillsboro captured a 14-6 win.

Hillsboro broke a 2-2 opening inning tie with a four run second, then added on two in the third, three in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Altamont had nine hits led by Kaleb Whitt with two doubles and two RBI, Teasley with two singles and Alek Biggs and Dawson Guerrettaz with a double each.

The Cardinals scored both runs in the fourth inning. North Clay had seven hits in the contest. VanDyke led the way with a double.

Bloemer picked up the pitching win, going all seven innings, allowing two hits, two walks and striking out nine.

Vandalia blanked Brownstown/St. Elmo, 11-0 in five innings Saturday.

Slater was the winning pitcher. He went four innings, did not allow a hit, four walks and struck out seven.

BSE had only one hit, a single by Nate Philpot.

BSE drops to 1-5 on the season.

Effingham downed Effingham St. Anthony in junior varsity action Friday.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the fourth. Effingham then tallied four runs in the fifth and a final run in the sixth.

EHS had eight hits while St. Anthony had seven.
