BSE Wins Opening Game at NTC Tourney

Brownstown/St. Elmo High School opened the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament with a 6-3 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Friday.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 after the first inning and 2-2 after three. CHBC took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth but BSE came back to take the lead away with two runs in the bottom of the frame then tacked on single runs in the fifth and sixth for the win.

Lewis Brown and Rocky Himes had two singles each for the winners. Himes knocked in three runs while Brown had two RBI. Wade Ireland had a double.

Nate Philpot threw a two-hitter with three walks and eight strikeouts. The lone hits from CHBC came from Doty and Manley with a single each.

BSE improves to 10-8 and advances to face St. Anthony today at 4:15 p.m. at Paul Smith Field. That game will be followed by Altamont against South Central at 7 p.m. In the other two games at Evergreen Hollow Park, Dieterich faces Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 4:15 and Neoga takes on North Clay (Louisville) at 7.
