Effingham Junior High School tallied four runs in the sixth inning to claim a 9-4 win over Mattoon in baseball action Tuesday.

The Mustangs took a 2-0 lead in the second inning then scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth before the four-run sixth.

Matteson, Eaton, Burgess and Smith had a single and triple each. Smith had three RBI, Eaton two and Matteson one. Volpi had a single, double and an RBI.

The Mustangs are now 4-11 on the season.

At Effingham

At St. Anthony

The Bullpups of Effingham St. Anthony stepped out to a 10-0 first inning lead and never looked back in a shortened 18-0 win over Brownstown/St. Elmo Tuesday.

The Bullpups scored eight more in the third to end the contest. Guy had a single, home run and four RBI while Hakman had a solo homer. Kabbes added two singles.

BSE was led by Bkaer and Claycomb with a single each.

At Effingham

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City came from behind to down Effingham Sacred Heart 8-6 in action Tuesday.

The Shamrocks took a 1-0 first inning lead then led 3-0 after three and 4-0 after four. CHBC tallied one in the fifth and one in the sixth but so did Sacred Heart who led 6-2. CHBC then came back with six runs in the seventh to win the game.

Buzzard, Hammond and Robertson had two singles each while Lamb and Schlanser added a double each for the winners.

Sacred Heart was led by McDevitt with three singles and Zerrusen with a single and double.

Sullivan took a 1-0 first inning lead then added on four more in the second. But Teutopolis scrambled back with a run in the fourth, three in the fifth, five in the sixth and six in the seventh for a 15-5 win.

Bushur had a big night at the plate by hitting the cycle with a single, double, triple, home run and four RBI. Koester had a single, double, triple and two RBI while Konkel had a single, double and two RBI. Schmidt had a single and double and M. Althoff had a triple and two  RBI.

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor downed Altamont 13-2 in five innings Tuesday.

SSW took a 3-0 first inning lead and never looked back.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Wittenberg, Vonderheide, Wernsing and Kinkelaar with two singles each.

Hammer, Cripe and Rippetoe had a double each and Cripe had an RBI for Altamont.

Casey-Westfield came calling and picked up a 7-6 win over North Clay (Louisville).

The two teams were tied at 5-5 in the fifth. Casey-Westfield then scored a run in the sixth and seventh.
