T-town Wins Own Wooden Bat Tourney, Area Baseball Roundup

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School won its own Wooden Bat Tournament Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes are now 4-1. St. Anthony finished second and is now 3-1. North Clay finished third and is 2-2 and Dieterich was fourth and is 2-2.

T-town opened by pounding North Clay (Louisville) 13-0 in five innings. Dust  was the winning pitcher, going four innings, allowing one hit, two walks and striking out seven.

The Shoes had 14 hits led by Jansen with two singles, a double and four RBI, Kremer with two singles and three RBI and Hardiek and Bloemer with two singles and an RBI each.

North Clay was led by Jones with a double.

In the second contest, St. Anthony had its way with Dieterich, claiming an 11-0 win in five innings.

The Bulldogs had 11 hits in the contest led by Kabbes with a home run and three RBI, Koester with a single and double, Wall with two singles and an RBI, Utz with two singles and J. Guy with a single and two RBI.

McClain had two singles for Dieterich.

In the third place contest, North Clay beat Dieterich 7-3. The Cardinals had only five hits compared to 11 for Dieterich. Blank had a single and drove in two runs.

The Movin' Maroons were led by Flach and McClain with two singles and an RBI each and Thoele and Bohnhoff with two singles each.

In the championship contest, Teutopolis stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead and went on to blank St. Anthony 5-0.

Hardiek threw a one-hitter with no walks and five strikeouts. Jansen and Thoele had a double each. Thoele added two RBI. Kremer had two singles and two RBI, Funneman a single and double and Goeckner two singles.

St. Anthony's lone hit was a single by Niebrugge

At Bluford

In a Saturday contest, Webber Township (Bluford) downed Windson/Stewardson-Strasburg 13-1. Webber Township took a 3-0 first ining lead then tacked on six runs in the second and four in the third.

The Hatchets had three hits while Webber had 12. Jackson Miller, Ben Beck and Beau Bennett had one double each.

In a game Friday, Neoga downed Windsor/Stew-Stras 4-2. Neoga held a 2-0 lead after the first two innings. The Hatchets tied in the top of the third but Neoga came back with two runs in the bottom of the frame.

Neoga had five hits led by Layne Andrews with two singles.

Dalton Armes and Beau Bennett led WSS with two singles each.

Effingham St. Anthony came calling and claimed a 12-2 win over Brownstown/St. Elmo in six innings.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-0 first inning lead and never looked back. Kline had a single and double while J. Guy had a double for the Bulldogs.

BSE was led by Lewis Brown and Rocky Himes with a double each. BSE drops to 1-1 in the National Trail Conference, 1-2 overall.

At Altamont

Altamont edged North Clay (Louisville) 9-8 in eight innings Friday.

The Cardinals stepped out to a whopping 8-0 lead in the third inning. Altamont came back with four runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and tied in the bottom of the seventh. The Indians then scored the winning run in the eighth.

Altamont had 12 hits led by Pemberton with two singles, a double and two RBI, Vaughn with three singles and an RBI, Whitt with two singles and three RBI and Reardon and Teasley with a double and an RBI each.

North Clay was led by Clifton with a single, double and two RBI, Aldrich with a double and two RBI and Jones and VanDyke with two singles and an RBI each.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City took a 2-1 first inning lead but South Central came back with a six-run third and claimed a 12-4 victory Friday.

The Cougars had 12 hits in the game and were aided by seven CHBC errors. Geiler had three singles, a double and an RBI while Dodson added a single and triple. Blomberg had two singles and two RBI and Brandt a double and an RBI.

CHBC was led by Lowry with three singles. Kirchhofer had a single and drove in three runs.
