Here are junior high baseball results from the area Thursday:

ST. ANTHONY 5, EFFINGHAM 4

Effingham scored twice in the top of the first, but St. Anthony answered with a run in the bottom of the inning. The Bullpups then tied the game in the second, and took a 4-2 lead in the fourth. Effingham scored single runs in the sixth and seventh to tie the game at 4-4, but the Bullpups scored in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.

Mendella got the win, while Wolfe took the loss. Mendella followed Niebrugge to the mound; Wolfe was the fourth Effingham pitcher, following Eaton, Matteson and Pals. Niebrugge went five innings for St. Anthony, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks with three strikeouts. Mendella gave up two runs in two innings on four hits and a walk while fanning two. Eaton pitched 3-2/3 innings for the Mustangs, allowing four runs, two earned, on three hits and six walks, striking out two. Matteson pitched 1-1/3 perfect innings, striking out two, Pals pitched an inning, walking two, and Wolfe got an out before the winning run scored, allowing two hits and a walk.

At the plate for St. Anthony: Stewart--two doubles, RBI; Mendella--RBI; Hoene--single; Levitt--single, RBI; Wines--double.

At the plate for Effingham: Volpi--two singles; Pals--two singles, RBI; Eaton--single, RBI; Budde--double; Hardiek--double, single, RBI; Nelson--single

St. Anthony is 1-1 on the season, while Effingham is 1-2.

ALTAMONT 12, CUMBERLAND 0

Altamont held Cumberland to one hit. A seven-run second inning put Altamont in good shape.

JASPER COUNTY 9, NORTH CLAY 8

This one has a wild finish. North Clay led 3-1 after four innings. North Clay scored twice in the fifth to extend their lead to 5-1, but Jasper County scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. North Clay scored three runs in the top of the sixth to lead 8-5, but Jasper County scored four more times in the bottom of the inning and claimed the win.

Mahaffey got the win in relief for Jasper County, giving up five runs on four hits and three walks in three innings of work, striking out one batter. Mulvey pitched the first four innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits and a strikeout.

Burkett took the loss in relief of Ingram. Ingram pitched 3-2/3 innings, allowing one unearned run on one hit and four walks while fanning four batters. Burkett went 2-1/3 innings, allowing eight runs, only one earned, on five hits with no walks, striking out two.

At the plate for Jasper County: Meinhart--double, single, run scored; Tharp--two singles, run scored, RBI; Schafer--single, two runs scored, RBI; Reynolds--two runs scored, RBI; Mulvey--run scored; Mahaffey--double, walk, run scored, 2 RBI; Baltzell--walk; Jansen--two walks, run scored.

North Clay is now 2-1 on the fall.
