CARBONDALE -- St. Anthony came from behind to tie their 1A Carbondale Super-Sectional game with Goreville three times, but couldn't accomplish it a fourth time and fell to the Blackcats 5-4 Monday. The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

Goreville jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when a double by Brodie Lenon drove in Peyton Geyman. The Bulldogs came back to tie the game 1-1 in the bottom of the inning when Drew Gibson singled and Greg Utz doubled him home.

Goreville scored in the second to pull back in front 2-1 on a single by Logan Verble, a sacrifice and a single by Conner Johnson.

The Bulldogs finally plated a run in the fifth when Bryar Jansen scored after leading off the inning with a double to make it 2-2.

Again, though, Goreville bounced back in the sixth to score twice on a leadoff single by Brant Glidwell, a sacrifice, an error and two wild pitches and made it 4-2 Blackcats.

Once again, St. Anthony was up to the task. In the bottom of the sixth, Jacob Guy singled with one out and Ethan Greene was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced on a passed ball. Jansen then singled home both runners to tie the game 4-4.

However, Goreville wasn't done, scoring in the top of the seventh following a leadoff double by Braden Webb.

This time, the Bulldogs couldn't provide an answering blow, although they got two runners aboard with one out when Utz was hit by a pitch and Joseph Kabbes singled. The next two batters flied out, though, and that was the ballgame.

Colin Koester started for St. Anthony and went 5-2/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits, walking no one and striking out seven. Drew Gibson pitched the final 1-1/3 innings, allowing one run on one hit and two walks while fanning two.

At the plate for St. Anthony: Bryar Jansen--double, single, run scored, 2 RBI; Austin Kline--walk; Drew Gibson--single, run scored; Greg Utz--double, single, hit by pitch, RBI; Joseph Kabbes--single; Jacob Guy--single, run scored; Ethan Greene--single, hit by pitch, run scored; Bryson Wall--single
