Shoes Into Sectional Championship Game

VANDALIA -- The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes advanced to the championship game of the Vandalia 2A Sectional with a 5-1 win Wednesday afternoon over Alton Marquette. The contest was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

The Shoes will play for the sectional title Saturday at noon.

Teutopolis got on the board early with two runs in the first inning.

With one out, Jason Kenter reached on an error. One out later, Eric Kremer homered to left putting the Shoes on top 2-0.

After Alton Marquette scored in the second to make it 2-1, Teutopolis scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. The run in the third was the result of two walks and an error, with Carson Hartke scoring to make it 3-1. A one out double Brock Bueker got things started in the fourth and later scored to make it 4-1. In the fifth, Kenter singled with one out. A walk and yet another error plated Kenter with the final run.

Brock Bueker got the win for the Shoes, allowing one run on six hits and a walk in six innings of work, fanning nine. Lane Belleville pitched a perfect seventh inning, striking out two.

Teutopolis is now 27-6 on the season.
