EHS Wins 3-1 Over St. A in Game 2 of City Series, Area Baseball Roundup

The Effingham Hearts defeated the St. Anthony Bulldogs 3-1 Wednesday night in Game 2 of the 2017 City Baseball Series at Evergreen Hollow Park.

Brent Beals pitched a four-hitter with no walks and 11 strikeouts for the Hearts, while going three-for-four at the plate with a run scored and two RBI. He finished with two singles and a double.

St. Anthony took a 1-0 lead in the third inning but the Hearts came right back to tie in the top of the fourth. EHS then scored two runs in the top of the fifth and that was all that was needed.

St. Anthony was led in hitting by Bryar Jansen with a double and Drew Gibson with two singles and an RBI. Jansen threw an eight-hitter with one walk and two strikeouts in the loss.

Effingham improved to 21-2 on the season and took a 2-0 lead over the Bulldogs in the best-of-three series. St. Anthony is now 14-8 on the campaign. Game three will be played Friday at 7pm at Paul Smith Field at Community Park. It'll be Senior Night.

At Olney

South Central fell to Olney 11-1 in five innings via the 10-run rule Wednesday.

Olney tallied single runs in the second and third. South Central scored in the top of the fourth but the Tigers scored four in the bottom of the inning then ended the game with five runs in the fifth.

Pride and Hires combined to throw a no-hitter for the Tigers. Pride went three innings allowing the one run, seven walks and striking out two. Hires pitched the final two innings, allowing two walks.

At Ramsey

Neoga edged out to a 5-4 lead on Ramsey and went on for a 14-7 victory.

Jimmy Wood threw an eight-hitter with two walks and five strikeouts. Andrews had three singles for the Indians while Ramert had a single, two doubles and three RBI. Hill hit a single and a home run and finished with three RBI. Moran, Wood and Moore had two singles each. Moran finished with three RBI.

Neoga is now 7-12 on the season.
