Dieterich, Newton Pick Up Baseball Victories

RAMSEY -- Dieterich High School had three big innings in the middle of the game to blank Ramsey 15-0 in baseball action Thursday.

The Maroons and Ramsey were tied at 0-0 after the opening inning but Dieterich broke loose with two in the second, then tallied four in the third and nine in the fourth to end the game in the fifth via the 10-run rule.

Dieterich had 12 hits in the game led by Campton with a single, double and two RBI, P. Thoele with two singles and four RBI, Bloemer with two singles and three RBI, Goedde with two singles and an RBI and C. Thoele a triple.

Bohnhoff threw the victory, going four innings, allowing two hits, one walk and striking out six. Campton came on to finish out the final inning, allolwing one hit, one walk and striking out two.

At Newton

Newton edged Lawrenceville 2-1 with both runs for the Eagles coming in the first inning. Lawrenceville mounted a comeback in the top of the seventh but could only plate one run.

The Eagles had eight hits led by Mitch Jansen with three singles and an RBI. Newton improves to 7-5 on the season.

At Greenup

Cumberland fell behind 1-0 after the first inning then played Tuscola close until the fourth. Tuscola broke loose with four runs and finished out with seven in the fifth for the 12-0 win in five innings.

Cumberland had one hit led by Cutts with a single.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony captured a junior varsity doubleheader over Effingham Thursday.

The Bulldogs won the opener 6-4. St. Anthony led 3-1 after the second inning. The Hearts tied the score in the top of the third and took a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth. But the Bulldogs came back with three in the bottom of the fourth to pull out the win.

Tingley had a single and triple for the winners while Quandt added a double.

The Hearts were led by Waymouth with a double and two RBI and Ballman with a single and two RBI.

In the second game, St. Anthony scored all four runs in the third inning for a 4-0 victory.

Kabbes threw one inning of no-hit ball with three strikeouts while Fearday came on to pitch three innings of no-hit ball with three strikeouts and Wall went the final inning, allowing no hits and striking out one.

Bruanecker led St. Anthony with a single and two RBI.
