T-town, BSE, Newton, C'land Claim Baseball Wins

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School improved to 11-4 on the season with an 8-2 baseball victory over Charleston Monday.

The Wooden Shoes edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead. Charleston tied in the top of the third but T-town came back with a run in the bottom of the inning then added on four in the fourth and two more in the sixth.

The Shoes banged out 14 hits in the contest led by Jansen with two singles, a double, home run and three RBI, Hartke with two doubles and an RBI, Bueker with two singles, Kremer with two singles and three RBI and Kenter with a double.

Belleville picked up the pitching win, going 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, no walks and seven strikeouts.

At Bridgeport

Newton's Mitch Jansen pitched a perfect game as the Eagles blanked Red Hill (Bridgeport) 10-0 in action Monday.

Jansen allowed no hits, no walks and struck out five in the win.

Newton stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead then had a two-run second, a three-run third and ended the game with a three-run fifth. Nate Meinhart led the way in the hitting category with three doubles and drove in four runs. Luke Geier had a double and two RBI and John Grunloh a double and two RBI.

Newton is now 6-2 on the season and 3-1 in the Little Illini Conference.

Brownstown/St. Elmo unleashed the bats and banged out 11 hits and scored a 14-0 win over Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran in five innings Monday.

The Eagles stepped out to a 6-0 first inning lead and had a six-run fourth after scoring two in the second.

Lewis Brown picked up the pitching win on a one-hitter with three strikeouts and no walks.

Brown had a single, home run and five RBI while Dalton Denton had two doubles. Hunter Strauch had two singles, a double and an RBI and Wade Ireland two singles.

BSE improved to 6-8 on the season.

Vandalia came back from a 3-0 deficit to score a single run in the sixth and three runs in the top of the seventh to pull out the 4-3 victory.

The Vandals had nine hits in the contest and was aided by four South Central errors.

The Cougars had eight hits led by Markley with three singles and an RBI, Matheny with two singles and McCown with a double.

Hutsonville/Palestine edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead but Cumberland tied in the fifth and scored three in the sixth and two more in the seventh for a 6-1 win.

The Pirates had 11 hits in the contest, led by Hayden Kanizer with a single, home run and an RBI, Bryce Cutts with a single, double and an RBI and Justin Brown with a single, double and two RBI.

Kanizer picked up the pitching win, going all seven innnings, allowing three hits, three walks and striking out 11.

Effingham St. Anthony claimed a junior varsity baseball win over Ramsey, 11-1 in five innings.

The Bulldogs had a 6-0 first inning lead and never looked back. Wall had three singles and an RBI while Tingley had two singles and two RBI. Guy and Webb had a single and two RBI each.

Niebrugge was the winning pitcher allowing one run on two hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
