BROWNSTOWN/ST. ELMO 10, PANA 7

BSE scored three times in the top of the first, but Pana came back with two in the bottom of the frame. BSE then scored twice in the second to lead 5-2. Pana made it 5-3 in the fourth, but BSE scored twice in the fifth to make it 7-3. Pana got a run in the bottom of the frame to pull within 7-4. BSE and Pana each scored three runs in the sixth to account for the final score.

Bryton Pruett got the win, allowing four runs on seven hits in 4-1/3 innings, striking out three and walking two. Jeffrey Kelly got the save with a perfect seventh inning, striking out two.

At the plate for BSE, Nate Philpot doubled and singled, Dalton Denton singled and drove in two runs, Caleb Atwood singled and drove in two runs, Wade Ireland doubled and drove in two runs, Hunter Strauch singled, and Jeffrey Kelly singled twice and drove in two runs.

Brownstown/St. Elmo improved to 2-6 with the win in advance of a round-robin event on Saturday with Vandalia and Okawville.

SHELBYVILLE 11, MERIDIAN 6

Behnit got the win for the Rams, and Howell had two hits including a homer

NEWTON 24, CASEY-WESTFIELD 2

Newton racked up 19 hits in the win. John Grunloh, meanwhile, tallied 11 strikeouts in the five-inning contest. Logan Hawker took the loss for Casey-Westfield.

For Newton at the plate: Meinhart doubled and singled and drove in a run; M. Bierman had three hits including a double and drove in two runs; Frohning homered and singled and drove in four runs; Geier singled and drove in a run; Grunloh tripled, doubled and singled and drove in three runs; Horner singled twice and drove in a run; C. Bierman doubled and singled and drove in three runs; Cohorst homered and singled and drove in three runs; Britton singled and drove in a run; Weber singled and drove in two runs; Jansen singled and drove in a run.

Newton is even on the spring at 3-3 following the win in their first conference game this season.
