Effingham St. Anthony came through with a run in the bottom of the seventh to edge Mattoon 4-3 in baseball action Tuesday.

The two teams played to a 1-1 tie in the third inning. Greg Utz singled with two outs and came home on a double by Joseph Kabbes.

The Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead in the fourth when Colin Koester singled and scored on a single by Bryar Jansen. The lead went to 3-1 in the fifth. Kabbes singled with two outs. Jacob Guy drew a walk before Adam Levitt singled, scoring Kabbes.

But the Green Wave came back to knot the score at 3-3 with two runs in the sixth.

In the bottom of the seventh, Kabbes led off the frame with a single and went to second on a ground out. A fly ball was the second out before Koester singled, moving Kabbes to third. Bryson Wall then came through with a single, scoring Kabbes for the game-winner.

Koester picked up the pitching win, going just one inning, allowing no walks. Brandon Puckett pitched through six innings, allowing three runs on five hits, five walks and five strikeouts.

Kabbes finished with two singles, a double and an RBI while Levitt, Koester and Drew Gibson had two singles each. Levitt added an RBI.

In a junior varsity game, Mattoon blanked the Bulldogs 3-0.

At Brownstown

Altamont struck first with a run in the second inning then had a five-run fifth for a 6-0 win over St. Elmo/Brownstown Tuesday.

The Indians had eight hits in the contest led by Biggs with two singles and an RBI and C. Miller with a double. Whitt picked up the pitching win, going five innings, allowing one hit, three walks and striking out nine. Biggs came on to throw the final two innings, allwoing one hit, no walks and striking out four.

St. Elmo/Brownstown had a double by Maxey and a single by Sapp.

At Olney

Olney held a 2-0 lead, scoring one in the first and second innings, until the fifth when Teutopolis finally got untracked.

The Wooden Shoes tallied three runs and tacked on a final run in the sixth for a 4-2 victory.

T-town had seven hits in the contest led by Jansen with a single, double and an RBI and Bloemer with a single, double and an RBI. Hartke and Kremer added a double each. Kremer had an RBI.

Mette came on in relief of Bueker in the fourth inning and picked up the win. He threw a three-hitter with no walks and three strikeouts.

T-town is now 8-3 on the season.

At Olney

At Louisville

North Clay (Louisville) improved its record to 8-2 with a 6-3 win over Newton Tuesday.

The Cardinals stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead. But Newton came back with single runs in the third and fourth to knot the score. Newton took a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth. But North Clay broke loose with a four-run sixth for the win.

North Clay had seven hits led by Bloemer with a single, home run and two RBI while Burkett had two singles and Repking added a double.

Newton was led by Grunloh with a single and an RBI.

At Louisville

Oblong tallied a single run in the top of the third but Dieterich came back with two in the bottom of the frame for the 2-1 victory.

The Movin' Maroons were led by C. Thoele who had two singles and drove in both runs. P. Thoele threw six innings, allowing five hits, one run, one walk and struck out six for the win. C. Thoele came on in the final inning, allowing one walk and striking out two.

At Dieterich

At Neoga

Charleston edged Neoga 10-9 in eight innings Tuesday.

Neoga held a 6-2 lead after three innings. But the Trojans came back with a four-run third and a run in the fourth to lead 7-6. The Indians tallied three in the top of the sixth to pull ahead 9-7 but the Trojans tied in the bottom of the sixth.

The game went into the eighth inning when Charleston's Beard had a walk-off single with the bases loaded and no outs.

Moran led Neoga with a double and three RBI.
