Effingham St. Anthony High School captured its own baseball tournament Saturday.

The Bulldogs won the opener over Vandalia 11-1. The score was knotted at 1-1 after three innings before St. Anthony broke loose with a six-run fourth and a three-run fifth.

The Bulldogs had 10 hits in the contest led by Kabbes with a single, double and an RBI, Levitt with a single, double and four RBI and Kline with two singles and an RBI.

Sullivan then handed Cumberland a 12-1 loss in six innings. Sullivan took a 2-0 first inning lead and led 2-1 until the fifth then tallied seven runs and added on three more to end the game in the sixth 12-1.

Sullivan had seven hits led by Farris with two singles, a double and four RBI. Cumberland was led by Groom with a single.

Vandalia then defeated Cumberland 14-2 to claim third place. The Vandals stepped out to a 9-1 opening quarter lead and it was over in five innings.

Vandalia had nine hits led by Zimmerman with a single, triple and five RBI. Cumberland had three hits, singles by Grissom, Mathenia and Kanizer.

St. Anthony picked up the championship by downing Sullivan 14-1 in five innings. The Bulldogs edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then had a seven-run third and a six-run fourth.

Gibson had two singles, a double and drove in four runs for the Bulldogs.

 At Teutopolis

Teutopolis picked up a Friday night 12-1 win over Stillman Valley.

The Wooden Shoes scored all 12 runs in the first three innings and ended the game via the 10-run rule in the fifth.

Jackson Goeckner had two singles while Caleb Wendt had a double and an RBI for the Shoes.

In Saturday action, Teutopolis fell to St. Joseph-Ogden 1-0. St. Joe tallied the lone run in the first inning.

Hale pitched a two-hitter with one walk and 12 strikeouts for St. Joe. Bueker took the loss, going six innings, allowing two hits, one run, five walks and six strikeouts.

Bueker and Bloemer had a single each for the Shoes.

T-town then handed Stillman Valley a 10-4 loss. The Shoes tallied two in the first and third innings. Stillman Valley tied in the top of the fourth but the Shoes answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame then finished out with two in the fifth and one in the sixth.

T-town had 13 hits led by Hartke with three singles, Bueker with a single, double and an RBI and Bueker with two singles and an RBI.

St. Joseph-Ogden won the other game over Stillman Valley, 4-2.

At Martinsville

Brownstown/St. Elmo split victories in action Saturday.

In the opener, BSE fell to Alden-Hebron 5-1. BSE held a 1-0 lead until the third when Alden-Hebron tied then took a 2-1 lead in the fourth and finished out with three in the sixth.

Dalton Denton had the lone hit for the Eagles with a double.

In the second game, BSE pounded Martinsville 19-9 in six innings. BSE scored in every inning but the second.

Lewis Brown led the hitting attack ewith two singles, a double and three RBI while Nate Philpot had three singles, Isaac Maxey two singles and two RBI and Denton two singles and three RBI. Hunter Strauch chipped in with two doubles and three RBI.

BSE is now 1-5 on the season.

South Central edged Altamont 1-0 in action Saturday.

The Cougars scored their lone run in the sixth. Matheny went five innings, allowing no hits, no walks and four strikeouts. Geiler came on to throw the final two innings, allowing two hits, no walks and five strikeouts. Geiler picked up the win.

South Central had five hits, all singles, by Markley, Lots, Matheny, Davis and Brandt.
