Effingham High School took the early lead and never looked back in a 12-0 win over Shelbyville in five innings of baseball action Wednesday.

The Hearts had 11 hits led by Beals with two doubles and two  RBI, Koenig with a single, double and three RBI, Bateman with a double and three RBI, Ballman with a double and an RBI and Koester with a double.

Beals went three innings, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out two to pick up the pitching win. There were three other pitchers who threw during the game.

Effingham remains unbeaten with a 7-0 record.

At Kinmundy

South Central edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then tacked on a single run in the third, five in the fourth and three more in the sixth for a 10-0 win over St. Elmo/Brownstown Wednesday.

The Cougars had eight hits led by Markley and Lots with two singles and an RBI and Geiler with three singles and three RBI.

Matheny threw three innings, allowing two hits, no walks and four strikeouts to pick up the victory. Markley went two innings, allowing one walk and striking out four and Geiler finished the last inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.

St. Elmo/Brownstown drops to 0-4 while South Central improves to 2-0.

Marshall edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead and went on for a 9-1 win over Neoga Wednesday.

Marshall banged out 10 hits in the contest led by Poe with a single, double and three RBI.

Neoga had six hits led by Andrews with three singles. The Indians drop to 1-4 on the season.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged out to a 2-1 first inning lead on Paris but the Tigers broke loose with a six-run second and went on for a 12-2 win in six innings.

Paris had 13 hits in the contest while Chris Johnson picked up the pitching win, allowing five hits, no walks and striking out two. Raven Thompson came on in the final inning, allowing one hit.

Christian Kessler had two singles and a double for the Hatchets.

Junior Varsity Game

Effingham St. Anthony High School played host to Okaw Valley (Bethany) in junior varsity baseball competition Wednesday and handed the visitors a 16-2 loss in five innings via the 10-run rule.

The Bulldogs stepped out to a 6-0 first inning lead then had a five-run third. St. Anthony had 10 hits led by Niebrugge with a single, home run and three RBI, Hoene with a double and Ludwig with a double and three RBI. Chipping in with two singles were Wall and Ludwig. Ludwig finished with three RBI.

Guy pitched two innings, allowing one run on three hits, no walks and striking out four while Webb also went two innings, allowing three hits, one run, no walks and two strikeouts. Fearday finished out pitching the final inning, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out two.
