EHS Picks Up Win, Dieterich, S. Central, Altamont Nab Victories

Effingham High School's Mason Hull drove in six runs as the Hearts beat Mount Vernon 7-4 in baseball action Tuesday.

Hull drove in runs on a groundout in the second, a double in the third and a home run in the fifth.

Mount Vernon took the early lead in the top of the second 2-1. The Hearts grabbed the lead in the third for good as Brent Beals doubled, driving in one run, and Hull doubled drving in two runs.

The Heart scored three more in the fifth when Hull connected on his home run.

Zach Lee earned the win, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs, four hits and striking out four. Colby Utz threw two innings and Lane Koenig recorded the last out to earn the save.

Mount Vernon was a 6-1 winner in junior varsity action.

 At St. Anthony

Flora came calling and claimed a 9-7 win over Effingham St. Anthony Tuesday.

The Bulldogs held a 1-0 first inning lead but Flora broke loose for seven runs in the second and went on for the victory.

The Wolves had seven hits in the contest led by Gaither and Nicholson with a double and two RBI each and Cader with two singles and two RBI.

St. Anthony's Greg Utz provided six RBI with a single and two home runs. Ethan Greene added two singles.

At Louisville

Dieterich had a four-run fourth inning in downing North Clay (Louisville) 4-1 Tuesday.

The Maroons had eight hits in the contest led by C. Thoele and Niebrugge with a double each. Niebrugge added an RBI. Goedde had two singles and P. Thoele had a single and drove in two runs.

North Clay was led by Jones with a double.

P. Thoele held the Cardinals, who have been banging out home runs right and left in the past few games, to only three hits. He walked one and struck out five.

At Louisville

Altamont came calling at Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran and pounded the homestanders 16-1 in five innings via the 10-run rule.

Vaughn hit a home run for the Indians and had three RBI. Schmidt had two singles and an RBI and Miller a double.

Pemberton picked up the pitching win on a one-hitter with no walks and 10 strikeouts.

South Central claimed a 7-3 win over Mulberry Grove Tuesday.

The Cougars held a 1-0 first inning lead then tacked on four runs in the third. South Central held a 5-3 lead going into the bottom of the sixth and added on two more runs.

Geiler led the way offensively with two singles, a double and three RBI. Harpster chipped in with a double and triple.

At Kinmundy

Odin struck early with a three-run first then tacked on three more in the second, two in the third and ended the game via the 10-run rule in the fifth 13-3 over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.

Odin had nine hits in the contest led by Herrin with a single, double and two RBI, Jourdan with a double and Roberts with two singles.

CHBC was led by Doty with two singles and an RBI and Grove with a triple and an RBI.
