Colby Utz Throws Shutout as EHS Wins, Baseball Roundup

Colby Utz didn't allow a single run as Effingham High School defeated La Salle Peru 16-0 in Saturday baseball action.

Utz allowed just three hits and induced a fly out from Tyler Martyn to end the game.

Lane Koenig collected four hits in four at-bats for the Hearts. He finished with two singles, two doubles and three RBI. Mason Hull had two doubles and two RBI, Ryan Sandifer a single, triple and three RBI, Brent Beals a double and three RBI, Zach Lee a double and an RBI, Utz three singles and two RBI and Brett Koester a double.

EHS took a 2-0 lead in the first then tacked on three in the second, seven in the third and four in the fourth to end the game via the 10-run rule.

Effingham handed Altamont a 12-2 loss in competition Friday. The Hearts took a 2-0 first inning lead and never looked back.

The Hearts banged out 10 hits in the contest led by Patrick Sherrord with a double and two RBI, Cooper Jackson with two singles and two RBI, Zac Bateman with two singles and an RBI and Sandifer with two singles.

Alex Biggs had the lone hit for Altamont with a single.

Effingham's Bryce Lohman picked up the pitching win, going three innings, allowing one hit and striking out five.

 At Teutopolis

Teutopolis claimed a 10-5 victory over La Salle Peru in Friday competition. The Wooden Shoes had 11 hits in the contest.

Kenter picked up the pitching win going three innings, allowing two hits, no walks and striking out five.

Kremer had a single, double, home run and four RBI for the Shoes while Hartke had two singles, a home run and three RBI, Belleville two singles, Kenter a single, double and two RBI and Bueker a double.

In Saturday action, Teutopolis traveled to Greenville and lost to the host squad 5-4 before beating Columbia 6-3.

In the opener, Greenville took a 1-0 first inning lead and led 4-0 after three. T-town tallied one in the fourth and pulled within 4-3 in the sixth. But Greenville scored a final run in the bottom of the sixth. The Shoes came back with a run in the top of the seventh only to fall short.

Jansen had a single and two doubles for the Shoes while Kremer had a single and two RBI.

In the second contest, T-town had two three-run innings in the second and third to pull out a 6-3 win over Columbia.

Funneman went the whole seven innings allowing five hits, three walks and striking out three.

Belleville had a single, home run and one RBI while Kenter had a single, double and three RBI. Hartke and Jansen had two singles each.

Altamont captured a doubleheader over Moweaqua Central A&M Saturday.

The Indians blanked A&M 10-0 in seven innings. Altamont took a 3-0 first inning lead and never looked back.

The Indians had 13 hits in the contest led by C. Miller with a single and double, Whitt with a single, double and three RBI and Biggs and Teasley with two singles and an RBI each and D. Miller with two singles.

In the second game, Altamont was a 7-3 winner. Central A&M took a 2-0 first inning lead and held a 3-1 lead going into the fifth when Altamont broke loose with six runs.

K. Miller had a single, double and three RBI while Robbins had two singles and an RBI and Schmidt two singles.

Dieterich ended its game against Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in five innings by an 18-1 count Friday.

Dieterich had a six-run third and an eight-run fifth. McClain led the Movin' Maroons with two singles and five RBI while Goedde had three singles and two RBI, Flach three singles and an RBI and Thoele two singles.

CHBC was led by Grove and Doty with a single each.

North Clay (Louisville) picked up a 6-4 win over Windsor/Stewardson-Stewardson Friday.

North Clay held a 2-1 lead in the third and pushed that to 3-1 in the fourth. WSS came back with a run in the fifth but the Cardinals tallied three more in the sixth.

The home run barrage continued for the Cardinals as Quincy Aldrich, Jordan Bloemer and Michael Lovett each had a solo shot. Repking was the winning pitcher going five innings allowing five hits, four walks and striking out eight.

WSS was led by Chase Thies wit a home run, 1 RBI; Derek Moshenrose with a single, double and three RBI and Nic Hutchinson with a double.
