Congratulations to the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes, the Class 2A Junior High Baseball State Champions!

Teutopolis posted a 9-4 win over St. Joseph-Ogden Saturday evening at Eastside Centre in East Peoria. The championship game win followed a 10-2 semifinal win Saturday afternoon over Gillespie.

Teutopolis finishes its championship season with a 17-6 record.

In the championship contest, Teutopolis, the visiting club, scored two runs, but St. Joe-Ogden tied it in the bottom of the frame. The Shoes bounced right back with two more runs in the second and added a run in the third, then put the game away with four runs in the fourth inning. St. Joe-Ogden scored twice in the bottom of the fourth, but that was the end of the scoring in the game.

Teutopolis scored its nine runs on seven hits while committing one error. St. Joe-Ogden plated its four runs on six hits, but committed four errors.

Sam Bushur got the championship win for Teutopolis, pitching four innings and allowing the four runs on five hits while walking four and striking out four batters. Derek Deters was dynamite in relief, going three shutout innings and allowing just one hit and one walk while fanning five.

At the plate for Teutopolis: Andy Niebrugge--single; Derek Deters--two runs; Derek Konkel--two singles, RBI; Evan Addis--home run, run, 2 RBI; Evan Wermert--run; Hayden Ruholl--two runs; Justin Hardiek--run; Kolten Koester--run; Matthew Deters--RBI; Sam Bushur--three doubles, run, 2 RBI. 

In the semifinal win, the Shoes scored twice in the first, but Gillespie plated a run in the second to make it 2-1. Teutopolis then scored two more runs in the second to make it 4-1 and blew the game open with a six-run sixth inning to account for the final score.

Evan Addis went the distance, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks in seven innings of work, while striking out 11 batters.
