STRASBURG -- Effingham St. Anthony High School claimed a 4-2 win over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg in baseball action Tuesday.

The Bulldogs tallied a run in the second on a lead-off home run by Greg Utz. St. Anthony tacked on two more in the third when Colin Koester reached base on an error. With one out, Brandon Puckett doubled and Drew Gibson hit a sacrifice fly that scored a run.  Utz drew a walk and Ethan Greene singled home a run.

St. Anthony tallied a final run in the fifth when Gibson was hit by a pitch, stole second and came home on a single by Utz.

The Hatchets came to life in the bottom of the sixth, tallying two runs but fell short.

Utz had two singles, a home run and two RBI to lead the Bulldogs.

Josh Overbeck and Owen Bridges had a double each for WSS while Isaac Kramer had two singles and drove in both runs.

At Dieterich

This was a pitchers duel as both teams went scoreless through the first five innings before Altamont tallied a run in the sixth and held on for the 1-0 win over Dieterich.

Both teams had four hits. Pemberton picked up the pitching win, going six innings, allowing the four hits, two walks and striking out five. Thoele suffered the tough-luck loss, going seven innings, allowing four hits, one walk and striking out seven.

Biggs led Altamont with two singles while Whitt had a single and drove in the lone run.

Thoele had two singles for the Maroons.

At Brownstown

South Central stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead and never looked back in an 11-0 win over Brownstown/St. Elmo in six innings.

The  Cougars banged out 11 hits in the contest while Matheny picked up the pitching win on a two-hitter.

BSE drops to 0-1 on the season.

 At Cowden

North Clay (Louisville) pounded home 15 runs to claim a 15-1 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in five innings via the 10-run rule.

The Cardinals tallied four in ths first, five in the second, four in the third and two in the fifth. CHBC's lone run came in the fourth.

Van Dyke had two doubles and brought home six runs for the winners. Jones added a triple.

Doty had a triple for CHBC.

At Cowden

Neoga fell to Okaw Valley 7-6. Neoga had four hits in the contest led by Reece Johnson with two. Paci McClure and Alex Ramert had a hit each.

Neoga is back in action Wednesday against North Clay (Louisville).

 

At Altamont

Altamont Lutheran/St. Peter Lutheran topped Altamont in a back-and-forth affair Tuesday, 4-3.
