Effingham Junior High School edged Effingham St. Anthony 8-7 in baseball action Thursday.

The Mustangs tallied the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. St. Anthony held a 7-5 lead into the sixth when Effingham tied the score.

Effingham had 11 hits led by Wolfe with three singles and an RBI, Lee with three singles and Loy with two singles and two RBI. The Mustangs are now 2-0 on the season.

The Bullpups had nine hits led by Reardon with three singles and an RBI, Hootselle with two singles and an RBI and Moore and Walsh with a triple and an RBI each.

Altamont and Cumberland were tied at 1-1 for two innings before Cumberland pushed ahead 7-3 and finished with an 8-7 win.

Altamont had eight hits but committed three errors. Cripe had two singles, a double and three RBI while Reardon had two singles.

Jasper County banged out 11 hits and finished with a 14-13 victory over North Clay (Louisville)

Jasper County edged out to a 2-1 first inning lead then had a five-run fourth and a four-run fifth and held a 14-11 lead going into the bottom of the seventh. North Clay mounted a rally only to fall a run short.

Jasper County was led by Einhorn with two singles, a double and two RBI, Meinhart with two singles and three RBI, Smith with two singles and an RBI and Schafer with a double and an RBI.

Bible led North Clay with a home run and four RBI. Zimmerman and Weidner had two singles and two RBI each.
