Effingham Junior Legion Post 120 Wins Seventh Straight

Thanks to a walk-off RBI single by Ben Strullmyer in the bottom of the eighth inning, Effingham Junior Legion Post 120 won its seventh consecutive American Legion game Saturday against Teutopolis Post 924, 4-3.

Strullmyer delivered a two out single off pitcher Eric Kremer allowing Colin Koester to score from second base, breaking the 3-3 deadlock.  Brett Koester started for Post 120 surrendering three runs on just three hits in six innings as C. Koester got out of a jam in the seventh inning and pitched a scoreless eighth to earn the win.

Offensively Effingham scored four runs on seven hits. In addition to Strullmyer’s walk-off single, Brett Koester had two singles and scored a run, Ryan Sandifer had a double and Joseph Kabbes, Bryce Lohman and Bryson Wall each had a single in the contest. Lee Hardiek, Eric Kremer, Drew Thoele, Ethan Dust and John Tomlinson each had hits for Post 924.

Effingham won the second game of the doubleheader, 3-1.  Sandifer went the distance for Post 120 to earn the win.

Post 120 will host Newton today at 6 p.m. at the EHS field behind the high school football field.
