Effingham Sweeps Junior Legion Doubleheader from Teutopolis

Effingham American Legion Post #120 swept a junior legion doubleheader from Teutopolis Post #924 Thursday at Teutopolis.

Effingham won the opener 5-4 and took the nightcap 9-2.

In the first game, Effingham erased a two-run deficit by scoring three runs in the fifth inning. Bryce Lohman made the lead hold up by pitching three scoreless innings after relieving Brett Koester in the fifth. Ethyn Dust took the loss for Teutopolis.

Effingham took control of the nightcap by scoring two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings. Ryan Sandifer earned the win, surrendering two runs in 5-1/3 innings, and Colin Koester recorded the last five outs to earn the save. Dawson Smith was the losing pitcher for Teutopolis.

Offensively for Effingham, Brett Koester banged out five hits, including two triples, Colin Koester had four hits, Parker Seachrist had three hits and drove in two runs, and Ryan Sandifer and Kendall Ballman had two hits each.

Lee Hardiek led the Teutopolis hitting attack by collecting four hits in the two contests.

Effingham Post #120 improved to 8-4 on the season and will travel to South Bend, Indiana to compete in the Notre Dame Invitational next week.
