The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes advanced to the championship game of their own Class 2A Sectional with a 6-1 win over Trenton Wesclin Wednesday night.

The game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.

The Wooden Shoes will battle the Newton Eagles Saturday at 10am for the sectional championship and the right to advance to super-sectional action Monday evening at Sauget. Newton won the opener Wednesday 10-9 over Piasa Southwestern.

The Shoes scored a run in the first. Devin Smith led off things with a double. Brock Bueker worked a walk, but Austin Johnson struck out. John Kreke then hit a ball to centerfield that looked like a hit. Centerfielder Darrell Combs instead made the catach. Courtesy runner Dylan Bloemer was around second base when the ball was caught and was doubled off first to end the inning. In the meantime, though, Smith went back to third and scored after the catch and before the relay to first could be completed, and the run counted.

T-Town added two runs in the second on a leadoff walk to Kyle Smith and a base hit by Cody Jansen that eventually brought Smith home to make it 2-0. Lane Belleville singled, but Carson Hartke struck out. Jacob Roepke reached on a fielder's choice but brought home courtesy runner Mat Weber to make it 3-0.

Trenton Wesclin scored its only run in the top of the third, but the Shoes came right back to score twice in the bottom of the frame.

A leadoff single by Brock Bueker was followed by a single by Johnson. After a strikeout by Kreke, Kyle Smith walked. After Cody Jansen fanned for the second out, Lane Belleville reached on an error that allowed courtesy runner Dylan Bloemer and Johnson to score to make it 5-1.

The Shoes added their final run in the fifth. Kreke singled to lead off the inning and then stole second. Kreke eventually reached third and then came around to score to make it 6-1.

Brock Bueker went the distance to post the win for Teutopolis, allowing four hits and two walks while fanning nine.

Teutopolis is now 25-9 on the season, while Trenton Wesclin closes its campaign at 17-13.
