The Lake Land College baseball team was ranked eighth headed into the NJCAA Division 1 Region 24 Tournament last weekend, but pulled out an upset victory over No. 1 seeded John A. Logan, 12-8.

The team's season record is 15-32 as it begins tournament play today in the Final Four. The Lakers face Wabash Valley at noon at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.

The team's win marked Coach Bill Jackson's 100th career win. His coaching staff includes assistants Zach Stuart and Cameron Jimenez.

Earlier this spring, several baseball players were recognized for their academic achievement and perfect 4.0 grade point average.

Local players on the Lakers team are Alex Hoelscher (Effingham), Jordan Thoele (Teutopolis), Braden McNeely (Louisville), Adam Cox (Louisville) and Hayden Cole (Windsor).
