LOUISVILLE -- Effingham High School held a 6-3 lead until the seventh then brought home eight runs to finish with a 14-3 win over North Clay (Louisville) in baseball action Thursday.

EHS scored in the seventh on a passed ball, a two-run double by Hudson Graham, a two-run home run by Zac Bateman and a three-run home run by Kyle Pease.

Ryan Barnes racked up 11 strikeouts, allowing three earned runs, two hits and three walks over six innings.

The Hearts scored in the second on a ground out by Barnes and two singles. In the third, EHS tallied on an RBI double by Blake White, scoring Bateman.

The Cardinals faced just a 5-3 deficit in the third. A sacrifice by Brandon Repking and a two-run single by Jordan Bloemer gave North Clay life. But Barnes got the final out on a grounder to end that threat.

At Mulberry Grove

Altamont stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead and went on to beat Mulberry Grove 9-0.

The Indians had 13 hits in the contest led by Devon Guerrettaz with a single, double and an RBI, Branden Hosick with a single and double, Klaiton Wolff with a double and an RBI, Kaleb Whitt with two singles and an RBI and Nick Miller with two singles and an RBI.

Caden Miller picked up the pitching win on a three-hitter with no walks and 12 strikeouts.

Mattoon came calling and picked up a 10-6 win over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Thursday evening.

The Green Wave had a six-run second inning and finished with 13 hits in the contest.

WSS had seven hits led by Josh Overbeck with a home run and two RBI, Nic Hutchinson with two singles and two RBI and Christian Kessler with a single, double and an RBI.

Brownstown/St. Elmo broke a 1-1 first inning tie with a run in the fourth then finished out the game with a 7-1 victory over Ramsey.

Noah Flowers moved his pitching record to 3-1 with a two-hit, 10-strikeout game from the mound. Dalton Denton had a double for BSE.

Brownstown/St. Elmo improves to 6-9 on the season.

Teutopolis took the early lead and never looked back in a 12-2 win over Dieterich in five innings.

The Wooden Shoes held a 3-0 lead in the first then had a six-run second. T-town had 13 hits in the contest led by Devin Smith with a single, triple and an RBI, Austin Johnson with two singles and three RBI, Kyle Smith with two singles and two RBI, Jacob Roepke and Brock Bueker with two singles each, Carson Hartke with a double and four RBI and Jason Kenter with a double.

Dieterich had five hits led by Schmidt with two singles. The Movin' Maroons drop to 3-5.

Brock Bueker improved his pitching record to 3-1-1 with a three-hitter over three innings, allowing two walks and striking out five. The Shoes improve to 11-5.

Neoga moved its record to 10-5 by blanking Cumberland 8-0 in action Thursday.

The Indians edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then had a a five-run third and a two-run fourth.

Guy Walk picked up the pitching win on a two-hitter with nine strikeouts. He now owns a 3-2 record.

Jordan Hoedebecke had a double and a solo home run to lead the Indians. Neoga is back in action today at Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick.

Newton handed Marshall a 5-0 loss in Little Illini Conference play Thursday.

The Eagles led 1-0 until the fifth, then scored two more runs and finished out with two in the seventh.

Mitch Jansen pitched a four-hitter with two strikeouts.

Geier had a home run and two RBI while Meinhart, Grunloh and Bierman had two singles each.

The Eagles are now 2-0 in the LIC, 6-4 overall.
