Koenig's Homer Leads Hearts Over Indians; Other Friday Baseball

Lane Koenig's three-run home run capped a bottom of the seventh rally to lead the Effingham Hearts to a 5-4 win over the Altamont Indians Friday.

Altamont led the contest 4-0 before the Hearts began their comeback. Brett Koester singled in the first run and Michael Woltman doubled in another run before Koenig's shot to left field ended the ballgame.

Altamont scored a run in the first and then added two runs in the sixth and another run in the seventh.

Koenig's home was part of a three-hit day. Hudson Graham, Mason Hull and Blake White also singled for the Hearts.

For Altamont, Nick Miller, Caden Miller, Klaiton Wolff and Kolby Pemberton all singled while Jake Finn doubled. Wolff and Devon Guerrettaz each drove in a run, while Finn had 2 RBI.

Hudson Graham pitched six innings for Effingham, allowing three earned runs on three hits and a walk while fanning 10. Mason Hull pitched the final inning and allowed a run on two hits with a walk and two strikeouts. He picked up the win.

Wolff pitched into the seventh for Altamont and was charged with three of the five runs on six hits, walking three and fanning four. Nick Miller got a strikeout but allowed a hit ahead of Koenig's home run to be charged with two runs and the loss.

The Hearts improved to 3-0 with the win.
