EHS Pounds Out Big Win, WSS Claims Victory

TROY -- A four-run seventh inning sealed a 10-4 win for Effingham High School over Troy Triad in baseball action Wednesday.

The Hearts led 6-4 going into the seventh and scored on an RBI single by Lane Koenig, an RBI double by Brent Beals and an RBI single by Michael Woltman.

Beals pushed the Hearts ahead in the sixth inning and the lead lasted until the final out. After Koenig tripled, Beals came to bat with one out in the sixth and singled, plating Koenig. Beals racked up three RBI on four hits.

Hudson Graham got the pitching win for the Hearts. He allowed three runs over two innings. Graham struck out one, walked two and gave up one hit.

Effingham jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Beals got things going for the Hearts with a single. A single by Blake White then moved Beals to second. Effingham added more runs when White scored on an RBI single by Graham.

The Hearts led 2-0 after the first, 3-0 after the second. Triad tied in the bottom of the fourth. But the Hearts tallied three in the sixth. Triad pulled within 6-4 in the bottom of the sixth.

Effingham banged out 17 hits in the contest led by Beals with two singles, two doubles and three RBI, White with two singles,  Woltman with two singles and an RBI, Zac Bateman with a double and three RBI, Graham with a single, double and an RBI, Mason Hull a single and triple and Koenig with a single, triple and an RBI.

The Hearts won the junior varsity contest 8-2. Brett Koester picked up the pitching win.

At Windsor

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged Marshall 7-6 Wednesday evening.

WSS held a 3-0 lead after two innings. Marshall tied in the top of the fourth before WSS regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. WSS then scored two more in the sixth. Marshall rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh but WSS held on.

Derek Moshenrose pitched 5.33 innings, allowing five hits, four runs, no walks and struck out eight.

Moshenrose aided his own cause with two singles and an RBI while Josh Overbeck had two singles and an RBI, Christian Kessler a double and an RBI and Tyler Kemper a double and an RBI.
