The North Clay Cardinals kept scoring and it was enough to hold off the South Central Cougars Friday in high school baseball, 9-7.

Heath Hoffman hit a three-run homer to give the Cougars a 3-0 first inning lead.  North Clay scored single runs in the first and second to make it 3-2 and then scored three runs including a two-run homer by Logan Hilderbrand to take a 5-3 lead.  South Central got a solo homer from Kyle Bray to make it 5-4, but North Clay came right back with two in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run homer by Derek Cox to take a 7-4 lead.  North Clay extended their lead to 9-4 with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but South Central wasn't finished.  The Cougars scored three more runs in the top of the seventh on a three-run homer by Hoffman, who finished with 6 RBI in the contest, but it wasn't quite enough as the Cardinals held on for the two-run win.

Trinkle got the win for the Cardinals, while Heath Hoffman took the loss for South Central.

At the plate for North Clay, Hilderbrand had the two-run homer as well as a double and single and drove in two runs; Cox singled in addition to his homer and drove in two runs; Bailey had two hits and drove in a run; and McKnelly and Clifton each had a hit and drove in a run.

For South Central, Hoffman had the two home runs and 6 RBI; Fischer doubled and singled twice; Dylan Smith and Noah Powless each had two hits; and Bray hit the solo homer.

South Central is back in action Tuesday night, hosting Windsor at 7pm.
